For two years starting in 2008, I worked on 44th street between 5th and 6th Avenues. One evening as I was leaving the building, I heard ‘Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright)’ being sung very loudly by someone who sounded just like Rod Stewart. I looked towards the street and a Pedicab passed that had a really beautiful young woman in it, and right next to her was a very drunk Rod Stewart. He standing in the Pedicab and singing at the top of his lungs. If I remember correctly, it was 5:00pm on a Wednesday, and my mouth was agape.
After Rod’s Pedicab passed, I heard screaming coming from down the street. It was a middle-aged man running down the center of the street chasing Rod’s Pedicab. The man was screaming, “Rod Steward wears a wig! Look at that wig! He is wearing a wig! Rod Stewart wears a wig!”
Then Rod’s Pedicab, his special lady friend, and the middle-aged town crier all disappeared on 5th Ave. I walked towards 6th Ave to the train singing “Ain’t nobody gonna stop us now”.
