200 Theatrical Irony

A lot of broadway theaters are really old and not completely handicapped accessible. When I was at the Court Theater seeing The Cripple of Inishmaan, I saw the sign above.

I was curious and looked up the theater online, and saw that the nearest accessible bathroom for patrons was over block away in a hotel. The Court Theater site says:

Not wheelchair accessible. Restrooms located down 1 flight of 19 steps.

If you need wheelchair accessible restrooms you can use the ones in the Renaissance Hotel mezzanine level (7th Avenue and 48th Street).

So there I was watching a play about a person with mobility issues, in a theater where a patron with mobility issues had to travel half an avenue and a block to use the restroom.

Cue the Alanis Morissette song.
