88 NYC Pet Peeve Week – The Belle Syndrome


I love reading and I highly recommend it. However, I am not for reading a book and walking at the same time in crowded places.

I call this behavior: the Belle Syndrome.

Very often I see someone with a book, or an eBook, slowly walking up the stairs exiting the subway, reading their book. This Belle, as I will call him or her, is so wrapped up in what they are reading, that they don’t notice the line of very angry MTA customers in a traffic jam behind them. Everyone has to patiently wait, as Belle ascends the stairs, finishing the chapter.
