If you are in NYC between now and New Years, you should take the trip out to Dyker Heights to see the spectacle that is Dyker Lights.
I am not going to lie to you and tell you that it’s the most amazing light display you will ever see, but it is awesome and kitschy. Far from the glamour and elegance of 5th Avenue and Rockefeller Center.
When Andy and I went a few years ago, we just walked the streets between 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue, from 83rd to 86th Street. It was a Sunday night, and we grabbed dinner and dessert after the light viewing at a great Italian restaurant whose name escapes me.
It was a fun holiday activity, that only requires subway fare. There are tours that leave from Manhattan, but it is easy enough to do it on your own.
Who doesn’t love a good and slightly tacky holiday display?!
