Crazy things happen in NYC; but sometimes “Oh New York”, quickly turns into “WTF?!
This morning I got on the 6 train at Brooklyn Bridge and I saw a man quickly run into the train. He took a good look at the 5 other people in the train car and started pacing back and forth.
I looked him up and down, and saw that he was wearing a hospital gown over his clothes, under his winter coat. That’s when my “shit is about to get weird” senses went into overdrive.
I kept an eye on him as he ran to the doors at the end of the car that connected us to the train car behind us. He stood in-between the cars smoking a cigarette as the train pulled out of the station.
As we traveled uptown I suddenly smelled the remnants of a cigarette and strong body odor. When I looked up I saw the man in the hospital gown standing over me. I became nervous; watching his reflection in the window across from us. Looking to see if he was going to do something rash.
The man was on edge; rocking back and forth.
Suddenly the doors opened at 14th street and a bunch of people pushed on the train. With the train packed to the gills, the man in the hospital gown moved away from me to the other end of the car. Two women in their early 20’s took his place and chatted about Steve from work.
I breathed a sigh of relief, went back to reading my newspaper, and thought, “Oh New York!”
